Sam Madrell, one of the Blue House Design team, is going to be riding from London to Arras in France on to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund. Sam is a member of the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) and is riding to commemorate and remember the Battle of Arras in 1917.
A cause very close to his and many other’s hearts, the sponsored bike ride takes place almost 100 years to the day of the Battle of Arras.
The Arleux Loop just North of the village of Gavrelle was a German defensive trench system in front of the partially completed Siegfried Line.
During the Battle of Arras in 1917, the 1st Battalion HAC were committed to battle. During the action, Lt Haine and Lt Pollard won two of the three VCs awarded to members of the Regiment during the Great War.
The HAC will be marking the actions of the 1st Battalion and Lts Haine and Pollard by a charity ride from Armoury House, London to Gavrelle to raise funds for the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
You can donate via the Virgin Money Gving page. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
